After 19 years, Christine Siegel is stepping down as mayor of Bad Gleichenberg. As a woman who has been in power for almost twenty years, she is an exception. In the interview she explains why she was initially ridiculed and why two female politicians at the top of the community did not sit well with many people.
“Kron”: Ms. Siegel, you were mayor for 19 years. What was the deciding factor for you to resign now?
Christine Siegel: I always wanted to be able to decide for myself when enough was enough. I thought about it for a long time, the decision did not come overnight. I am now 62 years old and as a woman you can retire. What I want to emphasize because there are also rumors about it: my health is fine, I am not sick.
