People can have different opinions, he says: “But you can’t cut open the stomachs of pregnant women!”
Ariel Muzicant is visibly excited as he gives an interview to ORF in a Tel Aviv hotel. And he also admits it, after all, he was in the south of Israel in those places where Palestinian Hamas terrorists slaughtered men, women, children, the elderly and even babies.
“It’s terrible!”
“It was the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust,” says the former president of the Jewish Community in Austria. “More than 1,400 people were really murdered in the most brutal way, it is horrific.”
Europe is now obliged to protect its Jewish citizens, Muzicant said. And that also means a reconsideration of asylum policy: “I believe that it is now important that Europeans are allowed to enter Europe only those people who truly adhere to our European values. There cannot be asylum for everyone.” He no longer has any understanding “for all those so-called well-wishers who do not understand that we let people into our country and then shout: ‘Death to the Jews!’ ”
“Fight everything we stand for”
He understands people who demonstrate for a ceasefire out of concern for the civilian population in Gaza. But: “They don’t understand that this is not just a fight against Jews. This is a fight against everything we stand for. Against humanity, democracy, respect for each other.”
