“Once your reputation is ruined, you live unabashedly” – “Krone” journalist Petja Mladenova quotes this statement in today’s krone.tv interview. According to her, this seems to be the motto of National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP), who is facing serious accusations following the surfaced Pilnacek tape. Will this break the coalition? Mladenova: “We will get through this now.”
Politicians from other parties would resign, but not Wolfgang Sobotka. “He seems undeterred,” said the “Krone” journalist in an interview with Jürgen Winterleitner. She doesn’t believe he will draw his own conclusions.
Method “disrespectful”, but…
The fact that the tape became public on the day Pilnacek’s soul mass took place is ‘irritating’. The procedure is clearly reprehensible, but the content is still explosive and of public interest, Mladenova said.
“Within the University Committee it has never been ruled out that there was an intervention”
She does not accept the argument that Pilnacek testified in the U-Commission under the obligation to tell the truth and that the statements on the tape were therefore unfounded: “He was very vague there (in the U-Commission, note). He did not rule out one hundred percent that someone would intervene.” There are always interventions, one way or another, says the journalist.
Death knell for coalition?
In any case, the coalition does not see any danger: “We will get through this now.”
You can see in the video above whether the FPÖ’s allegations play into their hands and what exactly needs to be improved with healthcare reform.
