Part of the quota for the flu vaccination, which is available for the first time this season at a prescription price, has been used up, including the special vaccine for seniors aged 65 and over. The Austrian Medical Association (ÖÄK) announced on Thursday that repeat orders were no longer possible.
“This situation must be resolved as quickly as possible,” ÖÄK Vice President Edgar Wutscher called for more vaccines from politicians in a broadcast. It is said that he criticized the number of vaccines ordered from the start as significantly too low.
“About one million vaccine doses are simply not enough for this attractive offer and also not enough for a desirable vaccination rate,” said the ÖÄK vice president. “The commitment is there, but the bottleneck is the availability of the vaccines.” He urged the Ministry of Health to purchase more vaccines for the flu campaign.
It cannot be explained to patients that there are sufficient flu vaccines on the market, but not as part of the cost-effective flu vaccination program, Wutscher criticizes.
