The NEOS are pushing for measures to relieve the middle class. “It’s not a new topic, but it’s becoming more and more urgent,” NEOS boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger said on Tuesday.
She again called for a retroactive end to cold progression from the start of the year, cut non-wage labor costs by at least five percentage points and the European Central Bank (ECB) adopt policies that curb inflation.
“Tax revenues are bubbling up and this extra income is of course a nice basket of money for the Minister of Finance,” said Meinl-Reisinger. The government, most recently Economics Minister Martin Kocher (ÖVP), is leaning back and not putting forward any plan to relieve taxpayers. A government plan is finally expected before the National Council plenum in June. In connection with the planned increase in the federal army budget, Meinl-Reisinger also called for a new security strategy by July.
