The Yeltzales confirm that the message ignored “the constitutional discrepancies” and Elkarrekin Podemos adds that the monarch bought “the speech of the right.” The Basque PP believes that the king has made a “solid defense of our democratic coexistence” and EH Bildu has not given any response.
The PNV spokesperson in Congress, Aitor Esteban, has criticized the fact that King Felipe VI used the “constitutional discrepancies” and focused his speech for PP, PSOE and even Vox.
At a press conference in Bilbao, Esteban highlighted the “surprising break” at the beginning of the monarch’s speech, because he started talking “about the problems that concern citizens” but he wanted to talk about the constitution and of the unity of Spain“Spain as the only nation.”
“It is a speech that does not think about the Basque nationalists or the Catalan nationalists, not even the Galicians. It is of course a speech even more focused on PP, PSOE and Vox,” he said.
Finally, he reminded the monarch of the usual statistics that the PNV usually gives about its Christmas Eve message: 1,469 words, two in Basque.
EP-IU: “buy the speech from the right”
For her part, the parliamentary spokesperson of Elkarrekin Podemos-IU, Miren Gorrotxategi, believes that King Felipe VI did so yesterday “a defense of the Constitution in the worst possible sense”‘buying’ the discourse of ‘right and extreme right’ and limiting oneself to ‘defend your own position“.
Gorrotxategi has also described it as “inexcusable” that he did not mention the war in Gaza.
‘The king was actually defending his own position, his own institution, of its durability‘, criticized the Basque leader of Podemos, for whom Felipe VI ‘so distanced himself from a constitutional framework that is much friendlier and closer to the citizens’.
Basque PP: “he has solidly defended our coexistence”
The general secretary of the Basque People’s Party, Esther Martínez, has ruled that the king’s Christmas speech was a ‘solid defense of our democratic coexistence and constitutionally, a solid defense of the constitutional pact and therefore the defense of the rule of law, which guarantees equality, freedom and coexistence.”
In statements made in Bilbao, Martínez defended that the monarch’s Christmas Eve message was “laden with responsibility, highlighting our Constitution, the law of laws and of course the greatest success in our recent history.”
According to the popular leader, we are all responsible for ensuring that no rifts or divisions arise, and we are all responsible for building bridges and not to build walls.”
