The Ertzaintza investigates an off-duty police officer for participating in a protest against the amnesty law

Erkoreka confirmed the investigation in response to a parliamentary question from EH Bildu regarding the participation of “several ertzainas, allegedly off duty, who incited blockages of public roads and disruptions in the attitude of the leadership”, to “extreme right” demonstrations.

Ertzaintza’s Internal Affairs department is investigating an off-duty Basque police officer joined the protests in Vitoria-Gasteiz called up against the President of the Spanish GovernmentPedro Sánchez, for the Amnesty Actlast November 12.

The Vice Lehendakari and Security Advisor, Josu Erkorekahas sent a short response to a question from EH Bildu parliamentarian Julen Arzuaga, in which supports the research.

Arzuaga had asked the adviser about the participation of “several ertzainas, allegedly off duty, who incited road closures and disruptions in leadership attitudes,” in “extreme right” demonstrations.

In the letter, the confidential counselor states that a A Basque police officer was identified for participating in these mobilizations and that “the head of Internal Affairs has initiated an internal investigation to resolve the existence of conduct that could merit disciplinary reproach.”

Moreover, the cop was reported for violations of the Citizen Security Actknown as the ‘Gag Law’, which are not detailed.
