Due to legal costs, the Public Prosecution Service is investigating the mayor

Date:

Following a “Krone” report that Vösendorf ÖVP mayor Hannes Koza was reimbursed for legal costs through the city, the responsible public prosecutor’s office in Wiener Neustadt is now taking action. Although Koza returned the money, an investigation into the matter was initiated.

The allegations are serious. As reported, the ÖVP city boss of Vösendorf received legal costs of 1,129.32 euros, incurred due to a complaint against the Vienna Children’s Friends of his municipality as “consultancy costs for the purchase of a new fire truck”. A Viennese lawyer then submitted a statement of facts. “The report has been received and an investigation has been ordered,” prosecutor Erich Habitzl explained when asked by the “Krone”.

That’s what the mayor says
Koza himself even admits to the “Krone” that the “expenses reimbursement” was credited to the wrong account. “A mistake that happened and shouldn’t have happened. As head of the municipal office and manager of the municipal employees, I naturally take responsibility for this. Ultimately, it does not matter through which booking account the booking is made, because all booking accounts are assigned to the market town of Vösendorf,” the mayor explains in a written statement to the “Krone”.

Before his term, legal costs were always borne by the community – without this ever being questioned. “But I was clearly too naive to believe that the same rights that an SPÖ mayor is entitled to also apply to a middle-class mayor,” he adds.
