Health crisis – Waiting a month for an appointment with the gynecologist

Date:

On average, patients currently have to wait almost a whole month for an appointment with a gynecologist. This is evident from a parliamentary question answer from the Ministry of Health to the SPÖ, which is available to the “Krone”. The Social Democrats have seen their demand for a guarantee on doctor’s appointments confirmed.

SPÖ faction leader Andreas Babler is in favor of a guaranteed appointment with a specialist within 14 days. His plan calls for expanding the 1450 health hotline into an appointment booking platform. “If you cannot get an appointment with a specialist within two weeks, please contact 1450. The hotline will then arrange an appointment with a doctor from the relevant specialty in your area.”

“Do we need to take action now”
“The SPÖ has been warning for years that our health care system is cracking in more and more corners,” SPÖ club chairman and health spokesperson Philip Kucher told “Krone”. Unfortunately, every year it gets worse instead of better.

There is a shortage of doctors and waiting times for a doctor’s appointment are getting longer – unless you pay privately, says Kucher. “If we want to restore our healthcare system to what it once was, one of the best in the world, we must act now.”

The Scandinavian countries prove that this is possible. “If the SPÖ takes on the government’s responsibility, we will once again strengthen the public health system,” Kucher said.
