The Secretary of the Organization of Podemos, Lilith Verstryngeannounced Friday that she is stepping down from her political responsibilities in the party and her role as deputy in Congress.
The former parliamentarian of the Mixed Group expressed this through a message on the social network ‘X’, in which she points out that the farewell is “difficult and sad” and expresses gratitude for the trust that the militant Podemos has placed in her .
The resignation of the so far number three towards Ione Belarra takes place just six months after winning the seat in the general elections on the list for Barcelona together with members of Catalunya and Comú. His departure leaves Podemos with four deputies in the lower house, now in the Mixed Group after the split with Sumar in December.
After this announcement on social network X, the former Minister of Equality Irene Monteropublished a message saying: “the priority now is you. We love you and we will continue to walk together.”
In the same vein, the general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarraalso released a statement of support: “The most important thing now is that you take care of yourself and that you are doing well. Podemos will always be your home. Thank you for so much work in such difficult circumstances. A huge hug.”
After the departure of Vestrynge, considered number three in Podemos, it would be up to her to take her seat. Candela López Tagliafico, from Cataluyna en Comú and previously a member of the Initiative per Catalunya Verds. López Tagliafico is among Sumar’s hundred promoters for the founding meeting that will take place in March.
