The Belgian cyclist Lennert van Eetvelt (Pro Team Lotto Dstny) was proclaimed winner of the 153.8 kilometer Selva-Lluc Trophy sprint, the third test of Garden Hotels-Luxcom Challenge Mallorcaafter overtaking the Russian Aleksandar Vlasov (Bira-Hansgrohe) and the American Brandon McNulty (UAE Emirates) at the finish line located at the Lluc Monastery.
Lennert, 22 years old, clocked 03:34:43 hours to complete the difficult route through the Serra de la Tramuntana and celebrate the first professional victory of his career.
The Belgian rider already stood on the podium at the Mallorca round last year. He was third in the Andratx-Mirador d’Es Colomer Trophy.
Spaniards Iván Romeo (Movistar) and Igor Arrieta (UAE Emirates) reached the finish line in seventh and ninth positions, respectively.
Van Eetvelt, Vlasov and McNulty escaped on the climb to the Coll de Puig Major and ran the 30 kilometers alone until they played for victory in the sprint at Lluc Monastery.
Yannis Voisard (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) was fourth, 42 seconds behind the top three finishers. The Swiss did everything possible to get close to the escapees and reach the goal with options, but his attack did not develop.
In the Garden Hotels-Luxcom Challenge, which will end on Sunday at the Cathedral of Mallorca, in Palma, 23 teams are competing, including Movistar, Lidl-Trek, Soudal Quick Step, Bora Hansgrohe, UAE, Cofidis, Education Firts Easypost and Arkea Mga Hotel in B&B.
The Mallorcan round continues this Saturday with the Pollença-Port d’Andratx Trophy, 158.4 kilometers.
