The project has received approval from the Environment Committee, with Elkarrekin Podemos-IU and PP voting against. The final adoption of the law will take place at a future session of the plenary session of Parliament.
The energy transition and climate change lawagreed by PNV, EH Bildu and PSE-EE, this Monday passed the penultimate procedure in the Basque Parliament with the approval of the opinion on the project in the committee.
The opinion on the project was approved on Monday by the Chamber’s Environment Committee with the support of PNV, EH Bildu and PSE-E, while Elkarrekin Podemos-IU and PP voted against.
The final approval of the law will take place at a subsequent session of the plenary session of parliament, in which Yeltzales, sovereigntists and socialists have 62 seats out of a total of 75.
In the debate in the committee, the parliamentarian said PNV Unai Grajales has stated that the agreement between the parties that make up the government and the main opposition group is the result of the “complicity” with which these formations have managed to act in seeking “a balance between desire and reality.”
By EH BilduMikel Otero has shown that his group is satisfied with the agreement, as it is a “necessary, realistic and good” law. “We’re not going to say it’s perfect, but it’s a good law,” he declared, before assuring that EH Bildu’s contributions to the original document have so “transformed” the project that this is “a different law.” “.
By the PSE-EEAlberto Alonso recalled that “all sociological studies warn us that citizens are afraid” of climate change and “look to their institutions for answers.” In this sense, he emphasized that, with their consent, they send “a clear message” to society by “putting responsibility above any other interest,” in order to design an “ambitious road map” in the face of the climate crisis.
By means of Elkarrekin Podemos-IUGustavo Angulo has missed a greater “ambition” in the objectives and measures envisaged in the document. As an example, he explained that the law sets a CO2 emissions reduction target of 33% for 2030 compared to 1990, when the European Union “increased the same target to 55%”.
Finally, the parliamentarian of PP Carmelo Barrio has criticized the “imposition” of a fee for new energy installation projects from renewable sources. The ‘popular’ representative has denounced that this figure is “contrary to legal certainty” as it is not accompanied by technical, legal and economic reports on its “incidence” or scope.
