On Tuesday, the Ministry of the Environment presented new priorities in the context of climate protection. The resources of the climate and energy fund will also be increased for this purpose.
According to Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens), the fund has 657 million euros available this year. That is 13 percent more than in 2023. In total, the climate and energy fund includes 21 financing programs that focus on different areas. The climate minister mainly emphasized initiatives in the interests of energy independence and security. For example, the construction of new solar power plants or energy storage facilities is supported. A program to develop geothermal energy is also being launched. The expansion of all non-fossil transport options must also be promoted.
Gewessler wants to make people enthusiastic about the energy transition
According to the climate minister, it is also about making as many people as possible enthusiastic about the energy transition and actively supporting people “who want to participate”. To this end, the fund offers concrete advice and coordination options, for example for energy communities in which households, companies and communities share electricity. The climate and energy fund also includes social programs such as an ‘exchange program for old, energy-consuming electrical appliances’, which is mainly aimed at households affected by poverty.
Gewessler praised the fund, which has existed since 2007, as a “central interface for many green innovations” that not only promotes energy independence but also guarantees social prosperity.
