Guide adjusted – The Binnen-I has been banned from the Chancellery

Date:

Minister Susanne Raab (ÖVP) is serious about an announcement from Chancellor Karl Nehammer. After a corresponding adjustment to the communication guidelines, the Binnen-I is now removed from the Federal Chancellery. The FPÖ is outraged by a “forced gender” broadcast by parliament.

Dear reader, reader, reader, reader – this is not very readable and will therefore be banned from the Chancellery. Minister Susanne Raab (ÖVP) of the Federal Chancellery has adjusted the Federal Chancellery’s communication guidelines accordingly.

She refers to the German Spelling Council, which recommends the use of gender-neutral wording and the paired form. With this step, the ÖVP uses the discovered topic for the election campaign. However, she is not alone in this; the FPÖ has also taken up the fight against gender.

FPÖ locates “defacement”
She is currently outraged by “forced gendering” through parliamentary correspondence. This was written in the title of a press release: “FPÖ criticizes the federal government’s transport policy at the expense of commuters.”

This is not only a “defacement” of the language, but also contradicts all citation rules. According to Christoph Steiner, leader of the liberal Federal Councillors, retroactive changes to direct quotes are not permitted.

With their position, ÖVP and FPÖ are on course for a majority. As many as 80 percent of Austrians think gender is exaggerated. More than 60 percent are against mandatory rules for ‘gender-equitable’ language.
