After Navalny’s death – Schallenberg: Russia has a “murderous regime”

Date:

After initial diplomatic reluctance, Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg also resorted to clear words and named the regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin by name: “Of course it is a criminal and murderous regime,” the Foreign Minister explained on Sunday evening in “ZiB 2”. .

Schallenberg also clearly assessed the death of dissident Alexei Navalny in the Siberian prison camp: “It was a murder in installments, very clearly.”

Schallenberg admits diplomatic errors
“In retrospect, perhaps we were a little naive” in view of Putin’s increasingly restrictive system, trying “let’s not let all channels of dialogue fall asleep, let’s not burn all bridges” and “maybe the signs were on the wall not seen clearly enough,” Schallenberg admitted.

“Since the war of aggression, there are no more doubts; we know exactly what Vladimir Putin and his policies stand for.”

As for the chances of an end to the war in Ukraine, Schallenberg does not want to be under any illusions: “I think we need perseverance and strategic patience.” In Ukraine “it is a war of positions, unfortunately with 21st century resources – and we will continue to see this for many months to come.”
