According to the First Vice President of the Government, María Jesús Montero, the Socialist Group had requested an extension of the deadline, which expired tomorrow, for the Justice Commission to prepare a new opinion, as negotiations on the amnesty continues.
Last Tuesday, the Congress Council formalized the fifteen-day extension agree on a new text of the amnesty law which should be ready on March 7, so that it can be debated and voted on again in the plenary session of the House of Representatives.
After the Socialist Group requested an extension of the deadline, which expires tomorrow, within which the Justice Commission must prepare a new opinion, negotiations on the amnesty will continue, according to the government’s First Vice President María Jesús Montero.
Following Junts’ decision to reject the bill in the general vote it had to undergo in the plenary due to its organic nature, the House agreed to return the text to the Justice Committee so that it could issue a new opinion.
The institution’s governing body made that decision on February 6 and set an initial deadline of 15 calendar days, which ended on Wednesday 21. But last Saturday, the PSOE asked for more time to continue negotiations with the Junts.
That letter, which bears the signature of the general secretary of the Socialist Group, Montse Mínguez, did not specify how long this extension should last. The board has decided to give a two-week margin and set March 7 as the new limit.
