FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl called for a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia during a press conference on Tuesday (see video above). “A kind of final victory mentality has already spread internationally.” Macron’s statements are a “new high.”
As reported, Macron said that his country’s deployment of ground troops in Ukraine could no longer be ruled out. “If soldiers from other countries come home in coffins and are handed over to their families, is that the future of Europe? Not if people’s freedom has our way,” Kickl said.
Austria’s role must be neutral. “We want to position Austria as a mediator and mediator.” He referred to the negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian representatives shortly after the start of the war on Belarusian territory and those in Turkey in 2022. These were “very hopeful initiatives.” The proposal was that Russia would withdraw to its pre-attack positions and that in return Ukraine would promise not to become a NATO member. The country must ‘not have foreign armed forces on its territory’.
“Nothing achieved in two years”
According to Kickl, the West has achieved nothing in the past two years, but weapons are still being supplied. The sanctions policy against Russia, for example, would have achieved nothing. The relationship with the warring country must be ‘normalized’ again.
“You are absolutely right that there is a lot to criticize about this Russian regime. But that’s nothing exclusive. And that’s the problem I have: this double standard. When you talk about the Gulag, I say Guantanamo. If you talk to Navalny, I will tell you Assange (…),” the FPÖ leader said after being asked about human rights problems.
He wants to focus on a ceasefire and “get out of this level of escalation as quickly as possible.” The warring parties must begin negotiations.
