Second day of interrogation in the parliamentary investigation committee COFAG. The Tyrolean real estate juggler René Benko is still in the spotlight. Two tax officials involved in his tax audit are being questioned by MPs. The “Krone” is ticking live.
- The third person to be interviewed on Thursday is Marc Schimpel, director of the Covid-19 financing agency COFAG. He has already testified in the ÖVP’s corruption committee.
- The FPÖ in particular wants to go deeper into the COFAG payments; faction leader Christian Hafenecker sees a “fast lane for ÖVP party members”.
- Green faction leader Nina Tomaselli wants to discuss and load Benko’s “tax optimization model” today. Ask the tax officials about this.
- As on the first day of the investigation, NEOS politician Yannick Shetty wants to focus on suspected structural tax benefits at the Innsbruck tax office. He speaks of an ‘Alpine Cyprus’.
- ÖVP faction leader Andreas Hanger emphasizes that the financial administration works, as shown by the advertisement in the Wolf tax case discussed on Wednesday.
After the hearings on Thursday, the COFAG investigative committee will take a two-week break. Next week, investigations will begin in the committee for “Red-Blue Abuse of Power” established by the ÖVP.
