World Conference on Women – Raab: “The goal is a violence-free life for women”

Date:

Minister Susanne Raab (ÖVP) was recognized during the World Conference on Women for Austria’s efforts in the field of women’s work. However, there is still some catching up to do in the areas of men and childcare.

Minister of Women Susanne Raab (ÖVP) is currently in New York and yesterday took part in the annual UN World Conference on Women (CSW) in New York. In addition to Raab, ministers from 170 participating UN member states are represented. In a five-minute speech she expressed Austria’s goals regarding women. “The goal is that women and girls can live a self-determined and violence-free life according to their own ideas. This also requires the dismantling of old, dusty role models,” says Raab.

She also advocates for a self-determined and violence-free life for girls and women, which becomes more important than ever in light of recent incidents of rape and femicide. The violence clinics in particular made an impression at the conference. In general, the minister received recognition in bilateral discussions with representatives from all over the world, for example for the Austrian parental leave system. However, there is still a lot of catching up to do in the field of men’s and children’s care. Appropriate preconditions must be created here.
