The president suspects political motives behind the current action. “Unfortunately, it is a sign of our time that political discourse is increasingly being conducted by legal means.” They want to discredit him once again as chairman of the corruption commission ÖVP. He is now demanding prompt clarification from the authorities. “I will be available for questioning at all times to clarify this as soon as possible. As Minister of the Interior, I have always called on the expertise of the nomination committee and that will certainly emerge very clearly from this nomination file.”
An investigation could actually take place immediately. As interior minister, Sobotka enjoyed no immunity at the time, unlike MPs.
