The parliament of Navarre fails to approve a declaration against the events in Cabanillas

Date:

UPN, PSN and Vox have issued statements on this issue, but none have reached the unanimity needed to move forward.

The Navarrese parliamentary groups have failed to adopt an institutional declaration to position the Provincial Chamber against the violent acts that took place in Cabanillas during a peasant protest against the President of the Government of Navarre, María Chivite.

UPN, PSN and Vox They had presented statements on the issue, but none reached the unanimity needed to move forward.

The text presented by the socialists speaks of “aggression against the president”, something that UPN, PP and Vox do not agree with.

The Vox statement, which sought to condemn ‘police brutality’, has not received support from any group and the UPN text has not been put forward either because no consensus has been reached to change any point. In the case of the UPN, the other factions, except the PP, voted against.

The text condemned the “quarrels that took place in Cabanillas during a protest in support of the primary sector during a visit to the city by the President of the Government of Navarre, María Chivite, during which the car she was driving was hit and “there is a attempted to prevent their passage,” but there is no mention of an attack on the president.

The PSN did speak of ‘aggression’ and UPN, PP and Vox voted against. However, all groups except Vox have condemned the events, although UPN and PP believe that there is no attack on the president and the rest do.

The leader of UPN, Javier Esparzahas condemned “all violent actions,” as they “have done all their lives, just as the members of the PSN do not.”

The socialist spokesperson Ramon Alzorriz, has accused UPN of being “complicit” in the violent actions taking place during the farmers’ protests. Alzórriz has accused the regionalists of creating a “climate of lies that could lead to something serious.”

The spokesperson of EH Bildu, Laura Aznaland Geroa Bai’s, Pablo Azcona, have described the facts as “unacceptable”. Aznal has stressed that these images “do not represent the primary sector” and Azcona has recalled that the government is meeting with farmers and proposing measures.

The PP spokesperson, Javier García, has condemned the altercation. “We have made it clear that the Guardia Civil has also done an excellent job. The great tension that exists with the government of Navarre is clear.”

The extreme right party Vox He believed there was a “brutality reminiscent of the Grays”, but he remained alone in his condemnation.
