In the end there was no surprise and the PNV surpassed EH Bildu by 29,000 votes, although the Abertzale coalition achieved a historic result. The PSE-EE has 12 parliamentarians (+2), the PP 7 (+1) and Sumar and Vox 1 each.
The PNV and EH Bildu are tied on 27 seats Basque elections of 21Aalthough the Jeltzale formation won the voteswith 29,000 votes and a difference of 2.64 points, while the sovereigntist coalition has a historical result exceeded the 300,000 vote mark for the first time.
Election night also leaves behind other headlines: the growth of PSE-EE And PPthe near disappearance of the confederal left (only Add representation) and the surprise of Voxwhich retains its current representative.
So, the PNV will be able to re-establish the current coalition government with a PSE-EE emerging with an absolute majority, What Lehendakari would do to Imanol Pradales, jeltzale candidate. The polls have also exposed a paradox in the Basque parliament: it will be the most nationalist in history (Yeltzales and sovereigntists won three of the four seats), just as the debate on independence has almost disappeared from the political frontline .
The count was dizzying, full of alternatives and with the first two forces fighting for victory in seats until the end. And everything is still waiting for the vote of people living abroad, the so-called CERA vote, which will be counted on Friday.
In this context, the PNV has been the winner of the elections, with 20,500 votes more than in 2020, although it has lost 4 seats due to the increase in participation, which reached 62.52%. In concrete terms, the Jeltzale party obtained 35.20% of the votes, 4 points less.
At the same time, EH Bildu, with a support of 32.52% (almost 6 points more), has gained an increase of 90,000 votes and 6 parliamentarians and is also the party with the most votes in Álava and Gipuzkoa.
PSE-EE and PP have also grown in number of votes and representatives. The Socialists will therefore have 12 seats (+2) with 14.23% of the votes, and the popular 7 (+1), with 9.2%.
As for the confederal left, the ‘separation’ between the two formations has taken its toll on this space, which became the leading force in Euskadi in the 2016 general elections and gained six MPs in the 2020 regional elections. So the 21A only Sumar has achieved representation, 1 seat for Álava, so its candidate for lehendakari, Alba García, who ran for Bizkaia, did not win a seat. For his part, Elkarrekin Podemos disappears from the Basque Chamber.
Finally, and against all odds, Vox has retained its only parliamentarian for Álava, also with an increase of 2 points in votes.
ALAVA
EH Bildu has won the regional elections for the first time in Álava, an area where Elkarrekin Podemos-AV disappears and Sumar manages to enter the Basque Chamber, with Euskadi as its only seat.
Specifically, the Abertzale coalition won eight seats in this area, two more than it won in the 2020 elections. The second most voted party was the PNV, which lost two representatives and still has seven.
The PSE remains the third force and retains its four parliamentarians, although closely followed by the PP, which increases from three to four parliamentarians.
Vox also manages to retain its only seat in the Basque parliament, where there will be no representatives of Elkarrekin Podemos-Alianza Verde, a coalition that until now had two seats in the autonomous Chamber.
BIZKAIA
In Bizkaia, the PNV maintains its leadership, even though it has lost one seat and gained eleven.
For his part, EH Bildu has won 8 (2 more), the PSE-EE has increased from 3 to 4 seats and the PP retains its two parliamentarians.
Sumar and Podemos have lost the seat they had in the previous coalition and, like Vox, are not represented.
GIPUZKOA
In Gipuzkoa, EH Bildu was the force with the most votes, more than 40% of the votes, adding two more representatives, up to eleven.
The second force is the PNV, which loses one parliamentarian and gains nine.
The PSE-EE also grows, with another seat, to four, while the PP retains its current parliamentarian (1) and Sumar and Elkarrekin Podemos do not receive representation.
