The back and forth discussion about René Benko’s summons at the U-Committee seems to have come to an end. His lawyer confirmed a “binding commitment” on Wednesday.
Specifically, he is expected to testify before MPs on May 22. The ‘Standaard’ quotes a letter from Benko’s lawyer Norbert Wess. Benko will also be in Vienna the day before, and this will also be confirmed in writing.
The real estate juggler must prevent a police demonstration. He had previously apologized three times in a row for possible questioning “for various important reasons.” Recently, for example, because of the hearing on Wednesday about his bankruptcy as an entrepreneur.
This has recently led to a huge lack of understanding in politics. The Greens, but also the Social Democrats, had announced that they would bring Benko forward if he was rejected again. A legal dispute would probably have resulted and could have led to him being escorted to the appointment in May by the police – but that is no longer necessary.
