The second election has been won, the new mayor of Innsbruck is called Johannes Anzengruber. The outsider won against the incumbent city boss Georg Willi with 59.59 to 40.41 percent of the votes.
Anzengruber (list YES – Now Innsbruck) pushes the Green Willi from the mayoral throne of the Tyrol capital after only one term. In the direct mayoral elections two weeks ago, the previous incumbent Willi was in the lead with 22.89 percent. At the time, Anzengruber got 19.37 percent.
51,749 Innsbruck residents cast their votes in the second round of elections on Sunday, resulting in a turnout of 51.46 percent – a sharp drop compared to the first round of voting two weeks ago (60.5 percent).
Willi wants to become deputy mayor
In a first reaction, Georg Willi, who was voted out, said that he entered the new period with optimism and with the strongest faction: the Greens. He announced that he wanted to become deputy mayor under Anzengruber.
