The Basque government calls for a peaceful resolution of political differences

The spokesman for the Basque government, Bingen Zupiriahas called on the youth organizations of the nationalist left and Gazte Koordinadora Sozialista (GKS), including clashes and tensions in the streets of San Sebastian, to resolve their differences “peacefully” and without resorting to physical aggression or violence.

For example, Zupiria responded to questions from journalists about the differences between the youths of Sortu, Ernai and those of Mugimendu Sozialista, which increased last week due to the removal of material from the Kijera gaztetxe. Over the weekend, members of both groups stepped up clashes.

The executive branch spokesperson assured that any situation that “provokes a physical confrontation between civilians on the street is a cause for concern, whether it be an internal conflict within a political organization or a street fight, which also in more than once in recent months and they are being watched and persecuted by the Ertzaintza”.

She therefore called on “those involved in these internal tensions that take place in the groups”, who confront each other in the street and accuse each other of “different behaviour”, to conduct the discussion processes “in a peaceful and without resorting to physical aggression or violence, something that should not take place in political activity”.
