What is Alianca Catalana? The Islamophobic speaker who squats in the sovereignty space

Date:

Sílvia Orriols, leader of Aliança Catalana, is committed to “the fight for the national liberation of Catalonia and the reversal of the disastrous immigration policy.”

Under the motto ‘Let’s save Catalonia!’the candidacy of Catalan Alliance directed by Silvia Orriols Serra just now breaking into parliament with its Islamophobic, ethnic and anti-immigration postulates, which in many ways resemble those of Vox and short-circuit any unit of independence action.

Sílvia Orriols made an impression in the 2023 municipal elections when she won the election mayor of Ripoll (Girona)but she had been active on social networks long before that, where she had built a controversial, politically incorrect profile, with a barrage of xenophobic messages.

Born in 1984 in Vic (Barcelona), Orriols has a degree in library and information sciences from the University of Vic and is the mother of four children.

In 2004, he took part in the European elections with Estat Català and later joined the far-right group. National Front of Catalonia (FNC). He joined the Ripoll City Council in 2019 as a councilor from the FNC, from which he split the following year to create Aliança Catalana, a party that has grown thanks to two factors: the dissatisfaction of part of the independence movement, which ERC accuses, JxCat and the CUP of not going all out, and the impact caused by the 2017 jihadist attacks in Catalonia, whose mastermind was Abdelbaki Es Satty, imam of Ripoll.

What route do you propose to independence?

Orriols confesses that she was a great admirer of Carles Puigdemont, but that she eventually became discouraged by the perceived lukewarmness of the litigants. In any case, he did not rule out his support for a hypothetical investiture of Puigdemont, although he made his votes conditional on ‘the struggle for the national liberation of Catalonia and the reversal of the disastrous immigration policy’.

Orriols advocates a unilateral declaration of independence that will not be suspended “after eight seconds”, but will be defended tooth and nail and allow the creation of “a new Catalan legality” that will automatically repeal Spanish laws.

But in practice the independence movement does not have an absolute majority and Junts, ERC and the CUP have signed an anti-fascist pact imposing a cordon sanitary on Vox and Aliança Catalana.

Hate speech

Orriols has no problem describing herself as “Islamophobic,” saying she is “afraid” of Islam, “a political-religious ideology that seeks to impose a model of life incompatible with Western values,” and accuses immigrants of being an ‘Islamophobe’. source of crime, of maintaining government support and of causing an ethnic replacement that is on its way to suffocating Catalan identity.
