The chairman of ERC has appeared after indicating that he will temporarily leave the party’s chairmanship after the European elections. He explained that he did not feel “under pressure” to quit leading the party, “on the contrary, I felt supported.”
After announcing his resignation as chairman of the ERC by letter following the election debacle, Oriol Junqueras has indicated this Thursday that it will begin “a listening period to reconnect with people” and will look for the approval of militancy in the National Congress called for November 30.
The republican leader said this during an appearance in Barcelona feeling ‘useful and eager’ to continue leading the party as long as he receives “explicit and renewed support from the armed forces.”
The ERC will hold a National Congress on November 30 to determine a new strategy, and the party’s secretary general, Marta Rovira, has announced that she will not seek re-election at that congress.
