Kickl doesn’t – FPÖ: “Patriotic duty” to draft a candidate

Date:

At a press conference on Wednesday, party leader Herbert Kickl did not name the FPÖ candidate that the PVV wants to take on against Alexander Van der Bellen for the presidency. According to Kickl, the time is not yet right to appoint someone, but it is a “patriotic duty”. There was also a demand to end the “secret” surrounding the election date.

It is a “patriotic duty to oppose the sleepy system candidate with a vital representative of the population,” Kickl said, announcing an “interesting debate.” On the part of the FPÖ, it will be an advocate for the poor, with a “distance from power” and “far away from this hypocrisy”.

The battle will take place between “truth and freedom” on the one hand and “lying and oppressing” on the other. What he could also promise Van der Bellen: “It ain’t mowed Wies’n!”

Kickl will not participate himself
In any case, he himself will not participate, so Kickl, there will be no other names than those mentioned so far. He denied that this was only because the party had not yet reached an agreement. “Breaking Schmus” Kickl called a report that the FPÖ would send an independent candidate into the race.

‘A good decision is coming for Austria’
It was also said on Tuesday that the decision is still a long way off. The party board decided to transfer the selection of candidates to the party board – the highest body of the FPÖ. There is no date yet. “There will be a good decision for Austria,” Kickl says. Until now, Susanne Fürst, member of the National Council, has been the favourite.

Hofer can participate in 2028
Former party leader Norbert Hofer, who was surprisingly sent into the election six years ago and just missed the Hofburg, has already stated that he will not participate this fall, but at the same time has put himself forward (because of the better odds) for 2028 in prospect. .
In 2016, Hofer received more than 35 percent in the first ballot as the clearly strongest voter. In the first run-off against Van der Ballen, which was repeated later, he got 49.7 percent and in the second (finally decisive) 46.2 percent.

Federal party conference with presidential election in September
Kickl also announced the date for the next regular federal party conference. It will take place on September 17 in the event center in St. Pölten. At this, the 34th party congress, a formal presidential election will also take place. Even if the party “of course” has a chairman: himself.
