Twitter: “Does she drink?” – ÖVP MPs: We just imagine inflation

Date:

Inflation is at its highest point in 70 years. Not only are energy costs rising, the prices of everyday things such as groceries and clothing are also rising. The fact that many people can no longer afford to live is just an illusion, said ÖVP deputy Angela Baumgartner. She is now shaking her head and criticizing social media.

According to Baumgartner, the opposition is responsible for the conceit. “Why do we feel that we can no longer afford certain things? (…) Because they only cause agitation and create a bad mood’, the MP said in a speech in the House of Representatives this week.

Your Sager was picked up by the media and on social networks soon after. On the social media platform “reddit”, users sarcastically agreed with the statement, “ZackZack” reported. “Just feel rich from now on – problem solved,” was one of the comments.

Baumgartner earns more than 9,000 euros
A Twitterer said that with a salary like that you don’t have to worry. The gross monthly salary for a member of the National Council is 9,375.66 euros, which means that Baumgartner’s income is well above that of an average Austrian. According to the Association of Social Insurance Institutions, this was about 2640 euros gross in 2020. In addition, many members of the National Council supplement their income with extra income.

Other responses to Baumgartner’s Sager on Twitter included sarcastically asking if she was drinking and if she was sick. One user blamed the “miserable corruption of the federal government” for inflation, another spoke of the “peak of stupidity” that had been reached.

Angela Baumgartner has been a member of the National Council since 2017 and has been active in politics since 2010. The 53-year-old is the mayor of Sulz in the Weinviertel and a member of the Austrian farmers’ association.
