Authorities in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv have warned of a full-blown power supply collapse ahead of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. “We are preparing for different scenarios, including a complete breakdown,” Deputy Mayor Mykola Poworoznyk said on Friday. He did not say what would happen in that case.
Ukrainian authorities say they are not considering evacuating cities. Prime Minister Denys Schmyhal said half of the country’s energy supply was down.
“Russian Terrorism”
Ukraine describes the attacks on its civilian infrastructure as Russian terrorism. The government in Moscow rejects this, calling it a response to the government’s unwillingness to hold peace talks in Kiev. The rocket fire during the Russian offensive war is internationally condemned. Temperatures are currently below freezing in large parts of Ukraine.
