Dispute with Gewessler – the state governor wants an apology from the minister

Date:

Totally wrong!” Markus Wallner (ÖVP), governor of the state of Vorarlberg, is now reacting particularly violently to the Minister of the Environment, Leonore Gewessler. As is known, a verbal battle has been going on for days between the minister and the governors of the ÖVP countries over their blockade of the EU renaturation law. This led Gewessler to dismiss state governors as “forgetful of the future.”

Several state governors have already spoken out about this. For example, Upper Austrian state leader Thomas Stelzer told the ‘Krone’ that the minister showed ‘a very questionable understanding of democracy’. Styrian state governor Christopher Drexler, like Stelzer of the ÖVP, was furious and demanded ‘realism’ from the state. the Green minister instead of activism.” Anything else would mean forgetting the future if he had reversed Gewessler’s words.

And the Lower Austrian party and official colleague Johanna Mikl-Leitner spoke about the fact that it would forget the future if Europe were transformed into a pure climate protection museum.

Wallner: “It doesn’t work that way at all”
But the governor of the state of Vorarlberg, Markus Wallner, also from the People’s Party, is now going the furthest. For him, the behavior of the minister, who has been in the federal government together with the ÖVP for four and a half years, is “completely wrong”.

The statement about forgetting the future was “a verbal misstep by the minister”. “That,” Wallner said angrily in an interview with “Krone,” “doesn’t work that way at all.” That is why the Vorarlberger demands: “An apology should be made for this.”

Head of state sees “wake-up call”
What upsets him most, apart from the explanation: the EU renaturation law that Gewessler so vehemently called for is nothing but “another bureaucratic monster.” There is “total overregulation”, especially in the environmental sector. Bureaucracy must finally be curbed and not increased further.

You can already see how much industrial and export regions like Vorarlberg are being hampered in their competitiveness. The westernmost state has been hardest hit by the economic downturn so far. Wallner warns: “A wake-up call for all of Austria!”
