Gotzone Sagardui assures that he does not understand why they are being called at this time, when every community has already completed its summer planning, and has once again asked the ministry to take measures to solve the shortage of medical professionals.
The Acting Minister of Health, Gotzone Sagarduihas confirmed that his department will not participate at the extraordinary meeting of the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System, convened by the Spanish Minister of Health, Mónica García, next Wednesday to discuss together with the autonomous communities their summer plans and the way to find solutions to the lack of medical staff in summer.
Sagardui explained that “they have repeatedly asked the Ministry of Health to express this concrete measureswhich are also within their power” to solve the current situation of shortage of health workers.
However, in response, he stated that “there has not been any response” from the ministry and criticized “today, June 5, when all autonomous communities must adhere to our forecasts and schedules for the summer. “They call us to find out what is planned, with an agenda not intended to make proposals, but to listen again.”
Sagardui has stated that the ministry “must respond within its powers and has not made any concrete move, and it appears that there will not be any.”
The Interterritorial Council will address the shortage of health workers that occurs every summer and which will be exacerbated this year by the situation of medical residents (MIR) of their final year, who complete their residency in September and not in June as usual, and who therefore cannot be hired as reinforcement in the summer.
