Iñigo Urkullu believes that “it corresponds to a democratic state” to take on this recognition. A minister from the government of Spain will be present today for the first time at the commemoration of the bombing of Gernika.
The lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, has appreciated the presence for the first time of a minister of the Spanish government red-handed as a “positive step” to commemorate the bombing of Gernika, although he added that “this gesture should have come sooner”.
Similarly, the head of the Vaso Executive has reiterated “an historic demand” to the Spanish government: “to recognize the harm caused and the moral and institutional reparation to the citizens who suffered this barbarity.”
“It is up to a democratic state to take this recognition. It owes it to the victims,” he added in a message published on the 86th anniversary of the bombing of the city of Gernika by Nazi planes .
The government of Spain confirmed on Monday that a minister, Félix Bolaños, of the presidency and democratic memory, will participate for the first time in today’s flower offering, after sending a secretary of state last year.
In 2022, the executive also condemned barbarism for the first time.
