Last year, a farmer caused a stir across Austria – the photos of the appalling conditions of his livestock farming were too cruel. But the checks and demands of the Lower Austrian authorities were apparently ineffective.
Once again the “Verein gegen Tierfabriken” (VGT) received new images of the great fattening in Lower Austria. The new images are from the spring and prove that nothing has changed in the horrific attitude since the incident last September.
Corpses in the horror manure stable again
Dead lambs, goats and cattle lie among their kind – a fawn lies motionless on the ground dying. The waste bins on the farm are filled to the brim with carcasses and some are right next to the stables. The new scenes accurately reflect the conditions of the past year.
Prospect
“Of course a lot of animals die on this farm. Doesn’t the government or animal recycling notice this? How many animals still have to die miserably from disease or weakness in this fattening operation before harsh consequences are finally drawn?” asks Lena Remich of the VGT.
Neglected attitude, liquid manure, sick animals
The young cattle have serious skin problems and are close together in a pen, several animals in the entire barn are coughing, some children suffer from diarrhoea. In larger cattle, the centimetre-high layer of liquid manure is already collecting on the ground.
No improvements despite advertisement
Some cattle are completely bald in the neck because they rub their skin against the metal bars when eating. In general, the attitude still seems very neglected, which is extremely concerning given the repeated grievances and complaints in the company (also in 2022 and 2013).
authority silenced
There is now no excuse for ignorance on the part of the competent authorities. The case is known and only half a year ago the problems in the company spread across the country. Administrative penalties and strict controls were announced, but without direct consequences for the animals, who continue to suffer and die on the farm.
When “Krone” asked about it, district head Josef Kronister said: “There were checks and immediate measures were always taken. The company cannot maintain the required standard. We are doing everything we can to find a sustainable solution in terms of animal welfare .”
Image damage for farmers
“Krone” Tierecke department head Maggie Entenfellner supports the VGT. “I am shocked that the actions of the authorities are apparently so toothless. It brings the whole peasantry into disrepute. No one understands what is going on.”
Process against manager
The VGT filed another complaint and demands an urgent ban on keeping the animals. “This morning the trial against the manager involved begins! And yet, half a year later, the conditions in the fattening facility with a thousand animals are so cruel to animals again. as inside this If there are no consequences, then when?” says animal rights activist Lena Remich.
The VGT ends on April 26. At the beginning of the trial at 10 am, a spontaneous demonstration was held in front of the regional court of St. Pölten.
