Dispute in the TV studio – Schilling against Corona skeptic: “More respect!”

Date:

The two top candidates of the Greens, Lena Schilling and the Lijst-DNA, Maria Hubmer-Mogg, are having a heated duel in the studio of krone.tv. Green Deal, migration and corona policy – there was disagreement everywhere.

“Politics doesn’t just happen, it is made by people,” says Lena Schilling. That is why it is important that people participate: “Young people have actually made the climate problem an issue. Europe is the continent that will warm the most in the world. We need politicians who dare to change things.”

This requires major transformations, an energy transition and we must move away from Russian gas.

“You’re still very young…”
Lijst DNA sees this differently and wants out of the Green Deal. “The whole climate catastrophe story that everything is mainly caused by CO2 leads to regulations being adopted that harm the Member States. CO2 does not have the impact on the climate as is always said!”, the top candidate on the DNA list presents a study by the Norwegian Statistical Institute. “As a result, we will suffer losses, for example in terms of jobs, because companies leave.”

The stories about climate catastrophes bother Hubmer-Mogg. “As early as 1974 there were warnings of an ice age. They are still quite young, but we have already survived a few doomsday scenarios.” Hubmer-Mogg also calls for peace negotiations that will not be released before 2040 anyway; “Viewers should know that there are take-and-pay contracts. If we don’t turn off the gas, we’ll still pay.”

Schilling: “It’s not about a story!”
Schilling answers that people with low incomes are hit hardest by the climate crisis. The fact that in 2024 there is even discussion about whether we should do something about the climate crisis or not is also crazy. “Because in doing so, we allow the people who are already suffering from the consequences to continue to suffer.” “We are living through the greatest extinction of species since the age of dinosaurs. 140 animal and plant species become extinct every day! It is also about our food security.”

Mogg: “Take your saved points with you!”
Species extinction is also important to Hubmer-Mogg, she answers: “Every day, six to eight million insects die from wind turbines. Did you hear it?” Then the heated debates continued. Schilling: “I have the feeling that I am sitting there with an FPÖ representative who is giving even more statistics than usual and some of them are simply not true.” Schilling responded, “Maybe your tone is a little more respectful.”

“It’s not okay whoever came there”
When it comes to migration, List DNA wants to renegotiate the EU asylum pact based on the Danish model and forge alliances with small countries like Denmark or the Netherlands. “Use per capita in Austria is simply too high.” And: it is not okay who has come to our country in recent years. She refers to the mass rape of a young girl and the knife attacks in Mannheim, in which a police officer was killed.

Schilling refers to the rule of law. “Wherever people talk about a caliphate, there will be a condemnation or at least a trial.” This generalization is annoying because it creates a social climate. “Many people come here to seek protection and help. There is a problem. But hatred, incitement and propaganda are not the solution. What we need is a very clear distribution system. The 27 states that make up the European Union must make equal efforts to tackle the asylum and migration problem.”

When it came to the subject of health policy and the Corona protests, there was again explosive material. Schilling to Hubmer-Mogg: “You took to the streets with Gottfried Küssel, a convicted neo-Nazi.” Hubmer-Mogg rejects this out of hand: “I didn’t even know what Mr. Küssel looked like. And when he walked there, he walked there.”
