The 37 ERC defendants, including Junqueras, are officially asking for amnesty

Minutes after the BOE published the rule, defenses for the 37 “trials” defendants have already filed their formal motions.

Following the publication of the amnesty law in the Official Gazette (BOE), the defenses of the 37 ERC “trials” defendants, including Oriol Junqueras, have already filed their formal petitions to demand that the rule be applied to them.

ERC indicated this in a statement after the organic law came into effect on Tuesday.

Between the accused Those seeking amnesty – some with two or even three open cases – include former government vice president Oriol Junqueras, former councilors Raül Romeva, Dolors Bassa, Carles Mundó and Meritxell Serret, the general secretary of the ERC, Marta Rovira, the former speaker of parliament Carme Forcadell, as well as Anna Simó, Ruben Wagensberg, Josep Maria Jové, Lluís Salvadó, Natàlia Garriga and Xavier Vendrell, among others.

For its part, Òmnium Cultural has also officially requested amnesty for the member of the Board of Directors Oleguer Serra, accused of terrorism in the context of the case against ‘Tsunami Democràtic’.

From now on, the application of the amnesty law remains in the hands of the judges and courts that have cases related to the ‘trials’ on the table: these are the Supreme Court, National Court, Court of Auditexcept more than 300 causes in courts and tribunals of Catalonia.
