The mood in the turquoise green government is in the basement. Apparently they don’t want to see each other again so soon after the crisis that escalated on Monday. The ÖVP is considering canceling the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, the “Krone” has learned. Of course, this is not officially justified by the dispute over renaturation.
It was always intended that there would be no meeting of the Council of Ministers in the Federal Chancellery and that decisions would be taken through distribution, government circles said. Research by the “Krone” has shown that this is not entirely true. Several people involved knew nothing about circular decisions and assumed it was a normal meeting.
The crisis was caused by Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) passing the EU Renaturation Act, against the wishes of the ÖVP. In response, they announced a complaint against Gewessler for abuse of office and an action for annulment of the EU regulation.
