Rejection of the Council of Ministers – Babler against the Black-Green Party: “Refuse to work!”

Date:

According to SPÖ leader Andreas Babler, the black-green coalition has been in an “undignified state of uncertainty between coalition and non-coalition” since Monday. He criticized the fact that the Council of Ministers did not take place in person on Wednesday as a “refusal to work”.

Despite the escalation spiral, Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) did not leave the government on Monday just because he still wanted to use the ministries for “election propaganda”, Babler continued.

Nehammer embarrassed Austria on the international political stage by “politically eliminating” Green Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler during the vote on the EU renaturation law.

“Budget disaster” and daily worries
At the same time, according to Babler, the government is also failing in its own country: the population is still suffering from rising prices, they worry every day about finding a doctor’s appointment, prosperity is declining and there is talk of a ‘budget disaster’.

After Monday’s scandal – the ÖVP has announced an annulment procedure at the Court of Justice and a lawsuit for abuse of office because Gewessler failed to agree to the EU renaturation law – the government only exists so that the ÖVP can campaign on tax expenses (see video above).

Warning for black-blue coalition
Babler also fears that continuing the government could be expensive for taxpayers. He therefore called for a ban on events of major ministries and for a ban on surveys and study publications during the election campaign. At the same time, he again warned about a possible coalition between ÖVP and FPÖ after the elections, as this would jeopardize savings on pensions, health care and climate protection.
