Metal flames, thick clouds of smoke: the main stage of the “Tomorrowland” festival in the Belgian tree is completely on fire on Wednesday evening. Nothing is currently known about injuries – around 1000 people were on the site when the fire broke out. Videos show the size of the devastating fire.
The “Tomorrowland” – one of the largest music festivals in Europe – should have been officially launched on Friday. It is known for its extensively designed and huge stages worldwide, and around 400,000 guests visit the Mega Festival that is known every year for the EDM music direction. But whether the event can take place within two days as planned is at the moment uncertain.
The cause of the fire so far unclear
What has led to the huge Flame Inferno on the main stage has not yet been clarified. The organizer only confirmed the fire on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m., but calls no reason. “The rescue staff are on site. Our top priority is now security,” spokeswoman Debby Wilmsen of the festival told the Dutch newspaper “De Telegraaf”.
According to the Belgian daily “HLN”, the fire was created by Pyrotechnics – however, this was not officially confirmed. The Flemish radio broadcaster “VRT” of the Public Law racing trails of explosions in the field of the fire stove. Videos that are distributed on social media show the devastating size of the fire.
Emergency troops fight against the spread of the flames
The emergency services would currently try to prevent further spreads to prevent vegetation behind the stage and an obvious tent. Drones are used to check the fire. “We advise people in the area to keep windows and doors closed. The police are on site with a large contingent,” says the local authorities.
