As for collection, the Lehendakari has asked for “caution” for the time being in view of the evolution of the economy, but has announced that he wants a “slightly higher” budget by 2025 to meet the needs of society.

The Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, has defended that it is necessary to “wait for the provincial councils themselves to put on the table what possible adjustments are needed” to tackle a tax reform, and the Basque Government has committed to “collaborate, coordinate” this work with the objective that the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) has a tax system “that is more in line with the times and the challenges the country is facing.”

In this sense, the Lehendakari met today with the general delegates of Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa to analyse the challenges of the CAV. In the words of Pradales, “we cannot face the challenges that our country faces individually; unity and teamwork make us strong.” The leader added that “collaboration between municipal councils, provincial councils and the Basque Government is necessary.”

On reform of the tax systemPradales indicated that they are still in a preparatory phase and recalled that this is the responsibility of the councils. In any case, he assured that the Basque government will do “harmonization work”.

Referring to collectionhas called for “caution” for the time being in light of the evolution of the economy, but has announced that he wants a “slightly higher” budget for 2025 to meet the needs of society.

On the other hand, Pradales explained that he spoke “very briefly” with the deputy general of Bizkaia about the project. Guggenheim Urdaibai. He has made it clear that it is the intention of the Basque government to tackle the project, in collaboration with the Provincial Council and the Solomon Guggenheim Foundation. However, the Lehendakari recalled that a period of two years had been given to conduct an analysis.

Asked about the distribution system unaccompanied foreign minors who arrive in the Spanish State, Pradales explained that they intend to bring a joint proposal to Madrid together with the provincial councils. The president criticized the fact that these young people are distributed “asymmetrically” among the autonomous communities, without taking into account that the BAC is a place of transit.

amnesty law

Finally, the Lehendakari declared that the Supreme Court decision (TS) to reject the application of the amnesty to crimes of embezzlement linked to the Catalan sovereignty process and to uphold the arrest warrant of the former President of the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont, “does a disservice to the dejudicialization of politics.”

Pradales pointed out that the Supreme Court’s decision “contravenes the criteria established by the Attorney General regarding the interpretation of the amnesty law”.

At the same time, he stated that the Supreme Court’s resolution “also contradicts the rulings made so far by the Supreme Court of Catalonia.”

The Lehendakari has warned that the TS’ move “does a disservice to the dejudicialization of politics.” “It would be desirable that we can continue to make progress in the spirit and letter of the amnesty law and make progress on coexistence and decriminalization as provided for in the law itself,” he added.

Pradales has regretted that there are judges who “interpret this rule in a different sense”, and has recalled that it remains to be seen whether an application will ultimately be made for “some form of ruling” from the European Court of Justice Justice regarding this issue.
