The Elysée stressed that the president “will guarantee that the sovereign choice of the French people is respected”.
French President Emmanuel Macron will “wait” for the formation of the new parliament after the second round of parliamentary elections to “adopt the necessary decisions”, after the New Popular Front won the elections. French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has already announced that he will offer his resignation to President Emmanuel Macron on Monday.
“In accordance with republican tradition, he will wait for the structuring of the new National Assembly to take the necessary decisions,” said the Elysée, which stressed that “the President, in his role as guarantor of the institutions, will ensure that the sovereign choice of the French people is respected.”
The leader of the New Popular Front – made up of France Insoumise, the Socialist Party, the Ecologists – Europe Ecology – The Greens and the Communist Party of France –, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, has called on Macron to entrust them with the formation of a government, and has stressed that the president “has the duty to call the New Popular Front to govern”.
