In recent weeks, EH Bildu and Elkarrekin Podemos have warned that certain decisions by the Ministry of Education could conflict with some commitments included in the Education Pact. The four parties met this Monday to clear up any doubts about this.

PNV, EH Bildu, PSE and Elkarrekin Podemos-IU restored trust in each other during a meeting with Education Minister Jokin Bildarratz about the compliance with the education pact reached last April in the Basque Parliament, following the doubts expressed in recent weeks by EH Bildu and Elkarrekin Podemos-IU about the commitment of the Ministry of Education with the aforementioned agreement.
Representatives of these four formations, which represent more than 90% of the seats in Parliament, signed an agreement last April based on the foundations that should guide the future of the Euskadi education system.
This agreement envisages measures to strengthen and improve the “quality” of public schools, to combat school segregation, to form a multilingual system with Basque as “as” and to guarantee free education through “the eradication from all practices, whether open or concealed, of charging fees for education”.
In recent weeks, EH Bildu and Elkarrekin Podemos-IU have warned of the possibility that certain decisions by the Ministry of Education, such as approving a draft decision for education centers or signing an agreement with Google to provide a digital platform for schools- may violate some obligations considered in the agreement.
Faced with this situation, the signatories of the pact and the education minister – who will have to elaborate the content of the parliamentary agreement in a future law and in new education decrees – held a meeting of the follow-up committee of the pact on Monday.
After the meeting, the representatives of the PNV, EH Bildu, PSE-EE and Elkarrekin Podemos agreed to point out in statements to the media that the meeting served to regain mutual trust and clear doubts emerged over the past week.
In addition, it has been decided to hold new meetings in the coming weeks, the first of which will take place on the 20th, in a meeting where Bildarratz will present a schedule and work plan.
