Vitoria-Gasteiz will host the 9th Global Summit of the Open Government Partnership in the autumn of 2025, an international event that will bring together more than 2,000 experts and government leaders from around the world, the President of the Government announced on Wednesday. Pedro Sanchez.
In his appearance before the plenary session of the Congress of Deputies to present his democratic regeneration plan, Sánchez pointed out that hosting this summit strengthens the “referential position” of the Spanish State in terms of transparency and citizen participation.
Sánchez, who has highlighted that Spain is the third country in the European Union with the most open data and the fifth in the OECD, although the target is first place, has stated that the executive branch wants to make Open Government “a pillar of public domain management, within and beyond our borders”.
When the representative of the Spanish government in the Basque Autonomous Community took note of this decision, Marisol Garmendiacongratulated Vitoria-Gasteiz via social networks for “this great news” that “strengthens its international projection and that of the Basque Country”.
The mayor, also a socialist Maider Etxebarrianoted that with this event we “put Vitoria back on the map of large meetings and conferences, and with an international dimension.”
Etxebarria expressed his gratitude to the Government of Spain and President Pedro Sánchez for trusting Vitoria-Gasteiz to host the Open Government Alliance Global Summit 2025.
