After Transport Minister Leonore Gewessler stuck to her rejection of the flight connection from Graz to Vienna, the state governor and the Chamber of Commerce are now moving. Your criticism of the Green politician is serious.
That’s all it took! After the ‘Krone’ story that Transport Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) remains in favor of the Graz-Vienna flight connection after the Semmering Base Tunnel is put into operation (expected end of 2029), the waves are rising on this side of Semmering.
Director of the Economic Chamber Karl-Heinz Dernoscheg is particularly angry about the fact that she doubts the WKO study, which shows that the ecological impact of stopping domestic flights is limited.
“You can’t leave it like this, these studies have value. After the A9 we are now heading towards Graz Airport – if you want to cause lasting damage to a business location, you would probably act like the minister,” the chamber director shakes his head.
“Ideology-driven politics harms the location of companies”
State Governor Christopher Drexler is now also taking off his velvet gloves. “The airport is an indispensable hub, especially for the economy of Styria. The Graz-Vienna connection is not about luxury fun flights, but about the connection for our internationally networked companies! The ideology-driven politics of the Greens are enormously damaging to the location of companies.”
From the point of view of the Styrian ÖVP leader, five points are necessary for a successful economic future: the three-lane expansion of the A9 in the south of Graz, the continuation of the S36 and the construction of the S37 in the Murtal (in this context). He fully agrees with Chancellor Karl Nehammer, the expansion of the Graz-Marburg railway line, the connection of Graz airport to the Koralmbahn and the securing of the Graz-Vienna flight connection.
“NGO activist”
“However, all this fails due to the refusal of the Minister of Green Transport. In my opinion, anyone who acts as an NGO activist and does not have the welfare of the country at heart cannot be a member of the federal government in the future,” the state governor mutters in the direction of Vienna.
