Turquoise Green will no longer adopt a new epidemic law, Health Minister Johannes Rauch noted on Monday.
“That will not happen again in this legislature, that is a fact,” said Rauch about ORF. His ministry has had a draft amendment since 2023, which is intended to learn lessons from the corona pandemic. However, there is still a lack of agreement with the other responsible departments and the states.
That will now be “the task of the next government”. The basic principles of the Epidemic Act date back to 1913; it was already considered outdated when the corona pandemic broke out.
Also criticised by the Court of Audit
It has been revised several times in recent years, but the comprehensive amendment requested by the Court of Auditors is still missing. The RH had criticised the fact that the previous law was only useful for local outbreaks of diseases (epidemics), but not for global pandemics.
