On Wednesday, the cabinet made an early commitment to the pension increase for 2025. Austrian pensioners can expect 4.5 to 4.7 percent more. This corresponds to the statutory adjustment factor, which will only be determined in a few weeks. There is still a ceiling for maximum pensions.
The compensation payment must also increase by the statutory value. The protection clause for pension costs is extended by one year; the distribution of the first pension increase remains suspended.
The government is delaying the statistics
This time, the government has taken a step forward. The statutory adjustment factor – calculated on the basis of the average inflation from August 2023 to July 2024 – will only be determined once the July inflation is also known.
Decision in September
According to government information, experts currently estimate that the cumulative annual inflation will be between 4.5 and 4.7 percent. The CBS will release its flash estimate on Wednesday and the final value will be determined in September. The National Council’s resolution to increase pensions is also scheduled for September.
