CPI moderates to 2.8% in July due to lower electricity and food prices

The consumer price index (CPI) moderated its increase in July, to 2.8% compared to the annual rate, due to lower electricity and food prices.

The downward trend in interannual inflation is due to the fact that the price of electricity fell more in July than in the same month of 2023 and the food They became cheaper when they became more expensive last year. In addition, the prices of leisure and culture rose less than in the same month of 2023.

Inflation has thus accumulated two consecutive months of moderation, after reaching 3.6% in May (3.4% in June and 2.8% in July).

However, on a monthly basis, prices fell by 0.5% from June to Julywhich marks the first setback since November last year.

The Underlying inflationwhere unprocessed foods and energy products are not included, the annual rate has fallen by two-tenths to 2.8%.


The advance details for January must be confirmed by INE on August 13.
