In Poland, a 13-year-old student gave birth to a child during a school trip. The girl delivered the baby in the toilets of her accommodation. The cause also called the authorities to action.
The young mother and newborn were taken to a hospital, a police spokeswoman in Oswiecim said on Friday. The baby had to be taken to the University Hospital in Krakow due to health complications.
Teachers alerted police and rescue services
The group of students was housed in a rest home in Zator, near Krakow. The 13-year-old felt poorly on Wednesday evening and gave birth to the child in the hotel toilets, the police spokeswoman said. The girl’s teachers then called the police and ambulance. The young mother is being treated in hospital in Oswiecim and her condition is stable.
If the child’s father is an adult, there is a risk of imprisonment
The Public Prosecution Service is now investigating an unknown person for sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 15. If the perpetrator is an adult, he faces a prison sentence of two to twelve years under Polish law. If he is not yet of age, the case will be heard by a family court. According to the CIS Statistics Agency, there were 306,155 births in Poland nationwide in 2022, including 171 where the mothers were 15 years old or younger.
