The Greens are calling for a rethink. Surprisingly enough, this also applies to migration. “Anyone who comes to us must abide by the house rules.” A sentence that comes from Green Party leader Werner Kogler. Spoken in the ORF summer lecture.
“The Greens have a different position today than before, especially when it comes to learning the language,” Kogler admitted.
The Greens also reconsidered the issue of the new anti-terror law to monitor the courier services of potential murderers, which Justice Minister Alma Zadić had long held on to, the ‘Krone’ reported.
The leader of the Green Party now intervened and gave in: the bill, which originated from the Ministry of the Interior, is now finally being assessed. But Kogler warned that the law is very sensitive. “The law must be publicly discussed from all sides,” said Kogler.
ORF interviewer Martin Thür wanted to make it clear to Kogler that there was also postal haggling under the ÖVP/Greens government. The best proof of this: the appointment of top positions at the National Bank. As reported, Minister of Labor Martin Kocher will be the new governor of the National Bank in 2025. Kogler’s confidant Josef Meichenitsch will head the European Supervisory Principles and Strategy department at the OeNB.
Kogler tried to get out of the affair elegantly with a slalom. He defended the personnel decision. In contrast to the proportional representation under the SPÖ and ÖVP, qualified people would now get jobs, even if they were close to the government.
“I trust Lena Schilling”
The questions about Lena Schilling were sensitive because ORF interviewer Thür was an innocent victim herself. Kogler admitted that “mistakes were made by me and Schilling.” But the MEP still has his full confidence.
Kogler was surprisingly weak on public health, even though Groen Johannes Rauch is Minister of Health. Kogler’s performance was not convincing. If he wants to lead the Greens above ten percent in the National Council elections, he will have to improve.
