‘Spaces for Memory’ collects 400 spaces dedicated to the victims, most from ETA

However, there are also monuments dedicated to victims of the GAL, the GRAPO or jihadist terrorism. The aim of this instrument is “to preserve and dignify the memory of the victims of terrorism in Spain”.

The Memorial Center for Victims of Terrorism in Vitoria-Gasteiz presented this Wednesday ‘Spaces for Memory’, an interactive map of 400 monumental spaces dedicated to the memory of the victims of terrorism in the Spanish state.

Most of the nearly 400 milestones shown on the map are dedicated to ETA victims (60% of the total). However, there are also monuments dedicated to victims of the GAL, the GRAPO or jihadist terrorism.

The purpose of this tool, developed by the Valentín de Foronda Institute of Social History and funded by the Foundation for Victims of Terrorism, is “to preserve and dignify the memory of the victims of terrorism in Spain”.

In this way, the map collects the location of sculptures, monoliths, plaques and even trees or forests as a tribute to the victims in general as a group, to those affected by specific attacks or to individual victims.

Each room has a description of the monument, a photo and its location, available on the AROVITE website (arovite.com), and soon on the website of the Victims of Terrorism Foundation.
